Site History
Welcome to the Site History page.
This web site was first started on Saturday, October 8, 2005. It was really not much back then. Most of the pages did not work and there were some errors. We (Nick T. and Mark J.) decided to write all the pages ourselves using Strict XHTML 1.0. We are hoping to bring our fellow troop members, leaders, and parents the most professional web site that we could. We want things to look good, and we want to make sure that this page is compatible with every configuration you can think of.
If you ever experience a problem with the web site, such as a broken link, graphical error, spelling error, inconsistancies, or anything else you can think of, please do not hesitate to email us at ntowle@gmail.com. So here is the site history for all interested.
- October 8, 2005
- Started out with index. We got a pretty good theme, not to bright or too dark. We started work on the table of contents. The Home page is not finished yet. We also have the About Us page, which still is not finished. One of the first things we did was get the tour page up, this one is finished for now. We also put this history page here. It will be interesting to see how our site develops over time. Total time spent working on the web page today: about 8 hours.

- I added a few pages that were missing, along with some other stuff. Most of the pages I added were blank or contained little information. I am still working on getting all the pages up. I also fixed a few errors. I figured out that applet is deprecated, so we have to use object instead. Mark will have to convert that. I found a really cool HTML editor called tsWebEditor, it helps a lot as it features tabbed HTML editing so I can edit more than one document at the same time.

- Fixed up some CSS issues. Removed support for IE5.x because the Internet Explorer is incredibly unintelligent. We write according to the standards, and IE5.x does not render our pages correctly. Right now, our CSS is a bit mangled because half the stuff is commented out. We will fix this later. We also put the pictures of valid code on every page for a more consitent experince. The look of the site and the content have pretty much stayed the same. There was a slight reorganization in the menu, but that's it.

- Well, there have been many updates since October 13th of last year, but I was waiting until we got some content to post another update log. Since last October, I have improved the menu using Javascript, but I am still working out how to further improve it to use CSS. I also updated this page to be XHTML compliant. We have a forum now too. And everything is hosted. And we have a domain name (http://troop186.dyndns.org. So things are going pretty well right now.
