Troop History
Troop 186 in Three Bridges has been in existence
for over 55 years. The story is that the troop is even older than that,
but the earlier records were destroyed by some kind of natural disaster at the
council office.
We are in the process of trying to learn more
about the earlier history of the troop.
The following is a bullet list of some of the
significant activities that the troop has done over the last few years.
- In the summer of 2006, the
Troop attended a High Adventure camp in Virginia. Eight of the scouts did
the camp's New River Adventure program. This included a day of white
water canoeing (class 2-3 rapids), a day of white water rafting on the New
River in West Virginia
(Class 5 rapids), a day of caving, a day of low COPE, and a day of High
COPE (climbing, Zip line, etc). Three of our younger scouts did the
Merit badge program at the camp.
- In the summer of 2004, the
troop did a trip through the New England
states. The trip included a tour of the Submarine
Museum in Groton
Connecticut, a tour of the Battleship
Salem in Salem Mass. We walked the Freedom trail
and saw the sites in Boston.
We did an excellent hike up Mt Washington. We started from the
Cog railway parking lot, hike the route past the Lake
of the Clouds hut, and completed the hike to the top. On the way
back, we camped at Zoar Gap and had a day of outdoor rock climbing, and a
day of white water rafting.
- In the summer of 2004, two of
our scouts went with the council to Philmont Scout reservation in New Mexico.
Another of our scouts attended Northern Tier in Minnesota.
